Snowie's First day at "work" | Dr Dog visits to Autism Center | 21 MAY 2012

So...it's Snowie's first visit for Dr. Dog program. We visited Autism Center (Hua Ming).

We're on the wayyyyyyy!!! ;D look at her... she know nothing...!

my dumb girl obviously knows nothing... She thought it's just another "Kai Kai" trip. Well, it's your and my job now Dr. Snowie!

I was the first one to reach the place. My first thought was... autism...must be quiet.. actually not... hehe.. So its actually a very fresh experience to snowie and i. i didn't have time to take much picture because i was busy taking care of Snowie.

The Kids and their guardians love snowie so much. The volunteers there even wanna take picture with Snowie. Snowie was known as the "Hairy" one.

Since i got not much pics i'll stop here. Will show how it looks like after our coordinator send me the pictures.

If you have a very obedient dog and you're interested in joining the Dr. Dog program please visit Furry Friend's Farm Website or check out the terms at Facebook How to be part of Dr Dog

Caesar and Kirbie | Temporary Fostering 12th Feb 2012

This is a pretty old one but i've been lazy to post *wink*

So, this two puppy was dumped in front of my friend's house. She basically called up 3 friends to see if they can help fostering. 7 dumped, 1 was adopted during spca adoption drive. so the puppies were devided into 3 groups. each fosterer took 2 of the puppies.

I'm the ...u know... sentimental type? is that what you called them? So i named the 2 puppies. Brown female as Kirbie and White male as Caesar.

Our first day, 12th February 2012. Surprisingly they are not as noisy as i expected. i let them out very often. Kirbie is the playful one. Caesar is the shy one. He do not know what to do. So he follows what his sister do. Kirbie likes human interaction. So she sometimes get jealous when i carry caesar. I told my friend i really like Kirbie and i don't mind taking her in if i have a house myself.

Kirbie was beautiful. Caesar is more like an ugly duckling. He's so skinny. Stomach bloated. He look exactly like a starving african kid. The sweetest thing is...they hug together when they sleep. Never leave each other aside.

They were given vaccination and deworm. It's been tough for me.. they've been vomitting, and having diarrhea few days later. I've been praying so hard for them to recover so that i can bring them to the adoption drive. The lucky thing is, i'm jobless when i foster them. so i get to take good care of them rather than just leave them alone.

On day 5 both of them are keeping themself in cage. not coming out. that makes me real worry. Day 6 they are actually playing around already. So i brought them to the adoption drive. Several people who want to adopt them but not willing to spay them.

On day 7 also which is the next day of adoption drive. i find Caesar's body temperature really high. i thought it's nothing. But am also worry as i got news from my friend on day 6 that one of their siblings got parvo virus and has been hospitalized. Later in the afternoon i feel not right. Caesar has been really tired. I told my friend we have to get them to the vet for a parvo test. Caesar was tested positive that day. As Caesar and Kirbie's been sharing same food, the vet expect both to have parvo as well. (Parvo virus is one of the highly contagious virus. Can be spread thru urine, poo, and saliva). They were both hospitalized on that day. On drip as well. What the vet told us was 50 / 50. they can't guarantee...

Few days later we were informed that both of them are recovering fast. Caesar put on weight and was discharged on Day 14. As for Kirbie, he's still having diarrhea so he have to stay back alone.

On the 15th day Caesar's stool is really good. Solid. The only thing is he's crying most of the time because he never leave his sister's side. I cooked him porridge with liver and chicken breast. Full bowl of it. Then only i realize it was a mistake. (A discharged parvo survivor cannot take big portion of food). The vet didn't say anything about that. Caesar is starting to have diarrhea again. this time, with blood. He's getting depress. Skinny as well. I called the vet many times. I was told it's alright. Till one day i couldn't bare seeing him getting more skinny. i brought him to the vet.

Then only the vet realize his condition is really bad. The next day Dr called up. Asking me to expect a bad news from her. Caesar might not survive this one. To be honest...i'm all ready for it....(to be continue...)

Story of Caesar and Kirbie | R.I.P Kirbie | 10th March 2012

It's the 27th day of my record. Caesar made it... I get calls from my friend and the vet. Saying that Caesar is active again, eating, and nice stool. He has fully recovered. and is ready to be discharged.

As for Kirbie...i visited her when i send Caesar over. She look so down. Worst than before. Unlike the previous days. She will bark and wanted to come out to me. Vet gave her deworm pill. She think that there's worm in her stomach. She's been very down for 2 days since. She was on drip. But again, the vet told me she might not make it.

10th March 2012, Saturday morning, Kirbie passed away. She slept and never woke up. My heart drop. but again, i already get ready for a bad news. This is really a bad news. The little girl who learn to sit so fast, learned her name so fast, and that little pup who always come rubbing her head under my palm. has gone...

Kirbie did not survive parvo. but if i have a chance, i want to say you're so brave Kirbie. you've done well.

The only regret im facing is ...i did not visit her that week before she left. I wanted to visit her on tuesday. Thinking of Saturday is the day im gonna get Caesar. i might as well visit her on that day. didn't know it'd be too late. My regret is letting her died facing four walls in an isolated room. It'd be better if she get to have a warming palm on her head saying "you're a good girl".(to be continue...)

Caesar the fighter | Distemper strike 11th March 2012

It's a brand new day. Kirbie has gone. We move on. We are so delighted to ...AGAIN.... get Caesar out of that horrible place.

Kirbie's body was cremated. All settled nicely.

Such a happy day but got shocked when the vet mentioned "beware of distemper symptoms" . So????????

I never experience Parvo...nor Distemper. For me, just the word Distemper is already scary enough for me to keep the vet talking. i've been hearing cases like that..."distemper". I don't know how is it like. but i know it's dangerous...and definitely not a good word to mention!

Why did the vet mention distemper? i remember that she said she saw teeth grinding when Caesar eats. She said just A LITTLE! "i can't confirm it's a distemper, so far he looks ok. but teeth grinding is one of the symptoms. thats all i can say".

Since the vet said that she can't confirm. i brought Caesar home. He was given i/d food. Since he just survived Parvo. He cannot eat much. He's given 25ml each meal. If he gets diarrhea, have to reduce the food intake. That day we - rescuer and i bring Caesar back to my house. Just when we place him down, he start twitching his head. Like ....seizure! We were both so shock standing there don't know what to do. We convinced ourselves that it's a car sick thing ( Caesar have bad car sick )

On day 29... he's ticking twice. i look for so many distemper article online. Most were saying nasal discharge..which i didn't find it on Caesar. At night, when food was given...he doesn't eat. Then he reacts again....head twitching..ticking...seizure...whatever term u name it...! right after it happen he would much up the food very quickly. He's sticking to me. Every where i go he follows. He's tired i guess...he likes it when i cuddle him or place him on my lap for him to sleep. He was only the size of a mini Pincher. or even smaller than that.

On Day 30...He twitches badly...my dad got shock by his ticking and shouted from downstair...asking me to bring him to vet right away. right after he ticks...he gets hyper saliva...again i bring this little one to vet...right after i set him down he shakes his head badly. The vet saw and did the distemper test right away. he was tested mild positive for distemper....

Again...i look for infos online. And calling vets from different clinic seems to be my every day job now. Most of them...ask me to put him to sleep... Even the vet we're consulting. She also suggest us to put him down. We're so sad. We can't take him in -we have our own dogs and we can't bare losing him. (Distemper is a highly contagious virus that can spread through airbone)

immediately i contacted every one in my list in facebook. spread news to my family and friends. Try to find a house without dogs. And i did. thanks so much to Cannie for helping out. (to be continue....)

Caesar the fighter | Distemper strike 2 | Day 36

What i can say is... Caesar is a tough one... he recover pretty fast from distemper. Should have said survived instead of recover (Distemper virus will forever be in the body..it can only be under controlled. Not recover).

The new day at Foster house(June). He's poop is fine, active, and eating well. Basically i go over to June's house every morning and evening to feed and take care of Caesar.

He survived. but the way he walk is really weird.. he's like wearing a mcdonald shoe..or ...a diving fin.. He's very active tho...he runs very fast. His fur is very shiny and nice.

I officially increase his food intake to 40g each meal and the poop is still fine. That was on day 50 which is the 2nd of April.

He's getting better and better. He's no longer on i/d food. slowly changing to normal kibbles. So we think that it's the right time to get him adopted now.

Getting him adopted is another painful job. People got so scare when they heard distemper even they DO NOT know what the hell is that. Some people don't mind..but they do not care to ask what is distemper or do some research on this virus.

So many days without news. So i get my photographer friend Desmond to snap a group of photos. It eventually attract many potential adopter.

On day 57 9th April 2012, He was adopted by a guy called XXX (let's not expose to the public). How surprising...there's so many conflict in between ...and so he was returned on Day 75...

I was so sad of this unlucky boy...Caesar has been moved from place to place.. causing him not to trust human anymore. He didn't know who is the real one who'd stand by his side. He became very timid.

Caesar ..AGAIN, moved to another temporary fosterer's home. the fosterer seems to like him very much. People from petfinder are seeing his pictures and started calling up. 3 potential adopters has made appointment to view Caesar on May 1st 2012. but well... Fosterer decided to keep Caesar :) Visited the adopter's house and Caesar actually is listening to his command. :)

And so day 83...is the day i stopped doing records for Caesar. Day 83, May 1st, is the day Caesar got Adopted. And i hope Day 83...is the forever day i can close Caesar's file...Day 83, the day where our group of fosterer and rescuer can breath :)

Love,
Yi

Another Canine Attack! ss19 Bull Terrier bitten 74yr Old man to death

Video on news

So, another case. Rather rare this time. it's not a rottweiler. not a doberman. it's a miniature Bull Terrier. (forgive our media report. most of the papers wrote pitbul which is not true).

Apparently the dog is under Custody for 2 weeks. As far as i've observed (in the previous cases), they never will make it to the end. The dog will be the one to blame.

http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/frontpage/2012/05/09/dog-owner-must-be-held-responsible-says-petpositive/

Yesterday night i imagined snowie is the one who killed an old man. i somehow know how the owner must be feeling now. Frighten, Sad, Guilt, Worry... too much for them to take the blame. But indeed they are the one that should be blamed.

http://www.mmail.com.my/story/animal-rights-groups-blame-dog-owner

My expectation is the dog will be put to sleep. Since there's cases like that and are not handled well and fair. Weeks before i saw a murder case on tv where the woman flush the chopped baby's head down the toilet bowl. got caught. and then release in a real short prison punishment. My eyes and mouth straight goes wide open.

Human can kill and punishment be given so lightly. i hope it will be fair to the animals too. They should be put through a rehabilitation and not simply put to sleep. It depend on the dog's fate tho.

As for the owner, i wouldn't say it's fully her fault. Advice and guidelines were not given when she first bought this bull terrier from the private kennel online. But you'll have to pick up this responsibilities. Because you just killed a man.

R.I.P Mr Yip
